Sustainability & Circular Fashion

SUSTAINABILITY - REDUCE, REWEAR, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE
Our styles are inspired by loud, tropical expressions we see in the wild.
We, on principle, never overproduce, utilizing recycled/leftover fabric whenever possible.
Every collection is special, curated in small batches, by the season.
Once it’s gone, it’s gone, & it’s a treasure if you have it.

CIRCULAR FASHION
With worldliness comes the responsibility of good stewardship to our natural world.
That’s why our philosophy is a rebellion against fast fashion.
The creative process of making clothing, especially with artisans whose livelihood
it is to bring these garments to life, is a circular journey, not a fast one.

It’s important that our customers know where their clothing comes from & how it’s made.
We are intimately involved with every part of the process, & watch our collections go full circle,
from across the world to our brick & mortar shop in Barnegat Light, NJ
… all while keeping waste out of our oceans & landfills.
ASK WHERE YOUR CLOTHES COME FROM
We do our part in the fight against waste by cleaning up the unfortunate mess big business leaves behind.
Materials are sourced in Balinese markets, fabric stores & warehouses – utilizing recycled & leftover fabric whenever possible.
Most of our Indian fabrics are sourced through Vimla and Babou, a mother-son team collecting wasted saree fabrics.
Vimla has been collecting these materials since the early ’80s, & her home is its own bazaar,
composed of gorgeous vintage dead-stock materials & sarees.
Our process is a ‘treasure hunt’ of sorting through pre-existing fabric & vintage textiles to be repurposed into our designs.

ASK HOW YOUR CLOTHES ARE MADE
Endless hours go into dreaming up these styles with our incredible tailors.
Designs are made into samples using up-cycled fabric which then undergo a collaboration with our head tailor,
Putu, & her team of 12 women & one male pattern-maker.
Our Rami Collection is a separate collab with a mother/daughter duo supplying ramie cotton, one of the strongest natural fibers.
In India, all of our cotton is hand-stamped using the block print technique, offering countless patterns to choose from.
Sometimes we’re fortunate enough to be involved in the phase of designing the block print & color schemes for a collection.

ASK HOW YOUR CLOTHES GOT HERE & HOW TO KEEP THEM GOING
Sandwiched between textiles piled high on her scooter as she winds through major traffic in Bali
or dodges camels in India, Taylor hand-picks & transports fabrics herself.
We at the Bazaar encourage our community to travel lightly & sustainably whenever possible,
to pass down or repurpose their old garments, to shop vintage/second hand,
& to support brands who put in the work to create something new out of something left behind.
